Lynden's sculptures shine in all their glory and then Prime Minister of New Zealand, Sir John Key, opens the Lava Glass Sculpture Garden.

Another idea transformed into action

Construction of the Lava Glass Sculpture Garden begins

Lynden starts the construction of New Zealand's first glass sculpture garden based on a landscape design Christine had drawn in her sketchbook.  Over a period of several months Lynden and his team handcraft more than 600 glass sculptures for the garden.

Cloak of Tia is unveiled

This sculpture was commissioned by the Taupo Sculpture Trust and Taupo District Council. Located in Taupo town centre one of the Cloak’s two panels is coloured using warm brown earth tones depicting the volcanic nature of the region. The other has the cool blues and greens which represent the lake, sky and river.

After building the furnace himself Lynden is able to start working in his own glassblowing studio. The Lava Glass Gallery opens its doors for the first time showing his works.
